A large and diverse team of WVU employees has begun in-depth planning in the business day’s modernization project, a cooperative, multi-year initiative to re-redesign and simplify how WVU does business.
Over the next few years, hundreds of leading actors from all campuses will work with partners at Huron Consulting Group to transform daily operational processes.
Work Day, a unified human resource platform, financial information platform and student, will create an efficient and modern experience for employees and students.
The first stage – passing through summer 2027 – focuses on the implementation of human capital management and financial business processes, with work day modules that will replace map, applause and other duplicate systems.
Once those components are stabilized, the teams will begin work in the second phase of the project, which will focus on the student processes and the work -day information system, which will replace Banner and other systems of related.
WVU leaders have long known that existing financial, HR and student information systems are inefficient and complex, such as business processes that support these systems.
Independent technologies have evolved or adapted over the decades, making systems inflexible and difficult to maintain. The Work Day project aims to eliminate these challenges and create a unified, integrated ecosystem that will allow WVU to adapt to changing future needs.
Anyone who uses current financial means, student information and HR management tools will eventually benefit from work day.
The benefits include the following:
-
The platform will provide a single source of truth for financial data, employees and students so that the faculty, staff and administrators are confident that the information they need is easily accessible, current and accurate.
-
Business processes that are without documents, dark or confusing will be simplified and standardized.
-
Routine tasks will be managed within the working day platform, and automated process steps will encourage employees when they have to operate in the system. This will release employees to focus on more mission -focused work such as student engagement.
-
Employees will have easier access to their information on a cellphone -friendly platform where they can easily see and execute routine business tasks.
Mario Barge, associate vice president for talent and culture and co-chairman of the Labor Day Steering Committee, said the work Day project will create more efficient and value-driven results for WVU.
“A critical component of our progress is the work of our teams,” he said. “They are authorized to move us forward, creating a legacy that transforms the way we act as an institution.”
The teams will cooperate, will not make decisions in Silos to ensure that future business processes are simplified, sustainable and standardized, said Associate Senior President Barbara Weiss, co-chairman of the Day Steering Committee of work. However, this project will require everyone throughout the institution to adopt a “blue sky” mentality, she said, reimaging the way we work without being hindered by past practices.
The modernization program team will take a comprehensive approach to these transformative changes, which will position WVU as the land institution of the future.
Advisory and governance committees have been formed, and the project team will reach the subject experts throughout the institution as work progresses. The working day team is committed to ensuring that people get the information they need to know when they need it.
